Built over the ancient ruins of a Franciscan convent, this Lighthouse towers from vertical cliffs to guide one of the busiest shipping lanes near Cape of Saint Vincent – or “Sacred Promontory" as it was called in Roman times. It is located in extreme Southwestern Portugal – Sagres - not too far from the Gibraltar Straits.
Aguarela, 25 x 36 cm , Papel Arches
A beautiful picture- the shadows on the lighthouse, the wispy sky... very nice!
ReplyDeleteYou captured a rugged quality in this painting, I can almost feel the wind blowing.
ReplyDeleteHi Rob,
ReplyDeleteAs painting subjects go, lighthouses are at the top my list. One day I hope to photograph and paint all the lighthouses in Portugal...and others beyond. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks Mineke. I have a weakness for stormy skies with fleeting sunlight...an early influence from my being awstruck by the works of the late great John Pike.
ReplyDeleteBela imagem do local
