Heart Island - The Power House

This building was simply a power house to the Boldt Castle
in Heart Island in the Thousand Islands region – the source of the St. Lawrence
River. It housed the electrical generators to supply power to the castle.
George Boldt, one of the founders of the New York Waldorf
Astoria Hotel built the complex as a gift to his beloved wife. She then died of
a sudden ilness. Devastated, and with the castle about 95% completed, he
cancelled further construction and it remained abandoned for decades. Today it
is one of the main atractions in the area.
Esta estrutura
continha os geradores eléctricos para o Castelo Boldt na região de Thousand
Islands entre os EUA e Canadá – a fonte do rio São Lourenço.
O complexo foi mandado
construir por George Boldt um dos fundadores do prestigioso hotel Waldorf
Astoria em New York. Era um presente para a sua amada esposa. Ela então morreu
de doença súbita. Devastado, e com o castelo cerca de 95% completo, ele mandou
parar as obras e o castelo esteve ao abandono por varias décadas. É hoje uma
das grandes atrações da região.
