This being a commissioned house portrait, it took twice as long to complete as it would have taken otherwise. I can’t help it, I always put twice the planning and effort whenever I work on a commission. The result is not necessarily twice as good, but in any event I know I tried my best. ………………….

The Art of Watercolour magazine
Yesterday I received my copy of the French magazine “The Art of Watercolour” (I get the English edition) and I was shocked to see three of my watercolors on its pages. In the Reader’s Competition, "Rio Dão" it was voted #5 in a list of 108 works selected. Another two watercolors of mine were also included, lower in the list. Being a self-taught amateur of watercolor I was shocked and ecstatic at the same time. As my Brazilian wife told me, I got full of hot air. I told her this will pass.

Watercolor 16x20" (41x51cm) Arches 300lb paper cp
Being a commissioned painting, this was a bit more stressful to paint than usual. The larger size and the profusion of vegetation weighed on me. Finishing without major snafus was a relief.

There is no railroad here. The train car appears to be a display, which adds character to the farm scene. The blue parts of the sky were added after the fact because the sky looked too light.
