This being a commissioned house portrait, it took twice as long to complete as it would have taken otherwise. I can’t help it, I always put twice the planning and effort whenever I work on a commission. The result is not necessarily twice as good, but in any event I know I tried my best.

Watercolor = Aguarela

From a young age, I have been fascinated by watercolor paintings. The transparent paint allows the light to go through it and to be reflected back to the viewer by the white surface of the paper. This results in a luminosity difficult to achieve through other methods. My favorite subjects are buildings and townscapes of historical interest. I admire many watercolor masters, especially Winslow Homer, John Pike, James Fletcher-Watson and Edward Wesson. And, from my native Portugal, Roque Gameiro, Alvaro da Fonseca, Alves de Sa' e Julio Amaro.

Desde pequeno, sempre tive um interesse especial pela aguarela. A tinta transparente permite que a luz seja reflectida pela superfície branca do papel, o que resulta numa luminosidade difícil de conseguir por outros processos. Os meus temas favoritos são de natureza arquitectónica, especialmente estruturas de interesse histórico. Admiro muitos mestres de aguarela, mas destaque vai para Winslow Homer, James Fletcher-Watson, Edward Wesson, and John Pike; e em Portugal, Roque Gameiro, Julio Amaro, Alves de Sa' e Álvaro da Fonseca.
