Rio Mondego - Mondego River
I found these old and abandoned houses by the Mondego River near Carregal do Sal, Beira Alta. It was a great fishing day except no one caught a single fish. But the picnic and the company of family more than made up for it.

Carregal do Sal

Due to the proximity of other buildings, it is not easy to find a good view to depict this picturesque church in Carregal do Sal. This one looked the best of the bunch to me.

Alminhas

According to the book "As Alminhas no Concelho de Carregal do Sal” by Hermínio Cunha Marques", this humble stone monument dates from 1868. However, the origin of these "Alminhas" or "Little Souls" goes back to much older times. From the same book, we learn of one plausible reason for them: " ...dangers from bandits, storms, lack of shelter, drove people in Antiquity to erect, on trails and crossroads, these symbols of faith for the protection of travelers."
This one is in Beira Alta, Northern Portugal.
